چکیده

With functional MRI, we recently identified fronto-cerebellar activations in predicting time to reach a target and basal ganglia activation in velocity estimation, that is, small interval assessment. We now tested these functions in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and degenerative cerebellar ataxia. They watched a ball that repeatedly appeared, moved, and disappeared. Velocity, stop locations, and predicted target locations as well as time to reach a target were indicated. Compared with controls, PD patients showed impaired velocity estimation (momentary mode) whereas temporal prediction was selectively impaired in cerebellar ataxia patients. The latter highlights feed-forward processing within fronto-cerebellar circuitry. Impaired velocity estimation in PD fits the concept of a basal ganglia clock function.

Evaluation of neuroprotective effects of cobalamin (vitamin B12) in Parkinson's disease - Investigation of molecular mechanisms

‌Background & objectives: Parkinson's disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases that its prevalence has increased in recent years. Although many efforts have been made to treat this disease, so far, no therapeutic approach has been found that can stop the destruction of dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of v...

Effects of Ferulago angulata Extract Against Oxidative Stress Induced by 6-hydroxydopamine in Rats

Background: Parkinson's disease is one of the prevalent degenerative diseases of the neural system. Oxidative stress, which has been recognized as the most important factor of Parkinson's disease, plays a main role in the death of neurons in this disease. Antioxidants have a proved role in the prevention of oxidative stress. Objective: Considering the presence of evidence regarding antioxid...

Improvement in Signs of Parkinson's Disease in Rats Following Transplantation of Embryonic Stem Cells

Purpose: Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disease produced by the death of dopaminergic neurons, and the response to current treatments is varied. It is important to develop a model for the evaluation of ES cells as an alternative model for treatment. Materials and Methods: The model for PD was developed in rats. First, ES cells were transplanted into experimental models in three groups: ...

Dataset on gait patterns in degenerative neurological diseases

We collected the gait parameters and lower limb joint kinematics of patients with three different types of primary degenerative neurological diseases: (i) cerebellar ataxia (19 patients), (ii) hereditary spastic paraparesis (26 patients), and (iii) Parkinson's disease (32 patients). Sixty-five gender-age matched healthy subjects were enrolled as control group. An optoelectronic motion analysis ...

A comparative study of simple and choice reaction time in Parkinson's, Huntington's and cerebellar disease.

The aim of the study was to compare the quantitative and qualitative similarities and differences in the performance of patients with Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and cerebellar disease on a number of reaction time tasks. Simple reaction time (SRT), uncued and fully cued four choice (CRT) tasks were performed by eight patients with Parkinson's disease after withdrawal of dopaminerg...
